Cars
Collector automobiles. History behind the car.
An automobile’s presentation is only the beginning. A useful ownership record connects its specification and observed condition to a dated history of maintenance and inspection.
Connect records to the vehicle
Check that the vehicle identity, mileage and dates on each record are consistent with the car under review. Separate advertised equipment from documented specification and later changes. Record unanswered questions without turning them into conclusions.
Follow the maintenance sequence
Read service records in date and mileage order. Identify what was diagnosed, what was authorized and what was completed. Keep an inspection recommendation open until subsequent evidence shows how it was addressed; an estimate alone does not establish a repair.
Document the current baseline
Record the inspection date, observed condition and accompanying items such as keys, manuals and service files. Use photographs of the actual vehicle when available. Preserve the limits of any inspection so a future owner can see what was checked and what remains unknown.
